As we move towards the end of September the warm summer months seem like an increasingly distant memory.
The cold autumnal winds are prevailing, the nights are drawing in and your bright and fresh summer fragrances are beginning to feel just a little out of place.
Moving into autumn is a great time to try out a new aftershave, to try and find something that continues to reflect your personality but without seeming out of place during the short and sharp days of autumn.
In this article I am going to look at some of the characteristics of a perfect autumn fragrance and hopefully give you some ideas of what you should look for should you decide to look for a new aftershave for the season.
Predictably the ideal scents for autumn are those deep and rich fragrances that match the weather and the colours that most people associate with the autumn months.
Out of the primary olfactive families of fragrances you will want to look into woody, aromatic and chypre scents in order to match the season.
Rich, and possibly slightly smokey, wood-like fragrances can be ideal.
As the leaves fall off trees and coat the ground fragrances that invoke forest floors and bonfires can perfectly match the moods that many people will associate with the autumn months.
Another style of perfume that I feel works well in autumn are the warm and homely fragrances that conjure impressions of warm and dark evenings, deep coffee and vanilla fragrances will often work very well, and a subtle hint of leather alongside this is something that I love to smell through the autumn months.
Finally as autumn wears on the Christmas spirit seems to become gradually more and more apparent.
One subtle way to get in the mood for the cold winter days and Christmas is to opt for an aromatic fragrance that pushes spicy yet homely aromas.
Cinnamon, Cardamom and pepper can all work well and a fragrance based on scents like these can work perfectly through the autumn and winter season.
As a season autumn is probably the one that is most suited to strong masculine aftershaves.
Deep and rich fragrances such as vanilla, coffee, oak, patchouli, smoke and leather are all fantastic scents to sport throughout autumn that simultaneously carry a strong sense of masculine sophistication.
