- 1). Place the Windows XP Professional CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer and boot up the PC with it.
- 2). Press "Enter" at the first screen so that setup checks for an existing Windows install. Do not press "R" on the first screen or it will start a "Recovery Console" which is not what you want.
- 3). Select your Windows XP installation in the list on the following screen, and then press "R" to start a "Repair Install." This will reinstall the stock Windows drivers and reset the stock registry entries. All other customizations, applications, and personal documents and files will remain untouched and functional.
- 4). Follow the setup prompts as you would a normal installation. When the repair install is complete, you will need to re-download and apply any patches of a later date than the service pack of the install CD.
