    Camping

Pennsylvania has many options for camping. Camping is a great way to save money and escape from the stresses that civilization brings. Many campsites include bathrooms, electrical hookups for RVs and picnic tables. You can usually pull your car right up to the camp site. For those who prefer a bit more of a rugged experience, Pennsylvania also offers many sites for back country camping. However, the Pennsylvania State parks are the place to look for family and group camping.

Presque Isle State Park is a sandy peninsula that stretches 3,200 acres into Lake Erie. It offers its visitors a beautiful coastline with many recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, boating, swimming and biking. Due to the unique habitats at Presque Isle, you can find many endangered and rare species living there. This would make a great vacation spot in Pennsylvania for those who are not looking to spend too much money.

    Hotel Conneaut

    • If you do not mind vacationing in Pennsylvania during the off-season, then you will find affordable rates at the Hotel Conneaut, starting at $55 per night. This is a lakefront hotel at Conneaut Lake Park. It was built in 1903 and has a lot of rustic charm in an old-fashioned atmosphere. In fact, to keep its historical nature, rooms do not include heat or air-conditioning, television or telephones. However, there is a TV room and board games are available at the front desk. Being located inside Conneaut Lake Park, there are many activities for all ages. There is an amusement park for kids with Blue Streak, the famous classic wooden roller coaster. There is also a beach club and a resort, which offers fishing, swimming and water skiing.

    Sight Seeing

Pennsylvania offers a lot of beautiful natural and historical sights to see. You can hike trails (or drive if you wish) up to Mount Davis, the highest mountain in Pennsylvania, located in Forbes State Forest in Somerset County. For a more historical outing, visit the Gettysburg National Cemetery, which is located on Cemetery Hill in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. There is also the Liberty Bell, located in Philadelphia, the largest city in the state. This bell has a very prominent role in American history, and would be something that kids should be familiar with from their history classes. Last but not least, let us not forget about the Pennsylvania Dutch and the Amish. You can find their farm lands centered around Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Sight seeing is a great way for the family to learn about history and appreciate nature while not worrying about spending money.
