How to Get Tape Goo Off of a Plastic Bottle

    • 1). Fill the plastic bottle with hot water and allow the water to sit inside the container for 15 minutes. Many adhesives are heat sensitive. After 15 minutes, try rolling the tape goo off with a clean microfiber cloth.

    • 2). Pour baby, mineral or cooking oil directly onto the tape goo over a sink or other safe area. Allow the oil to sit for two hours or more absorbing into the sticky residue. Rub a clean microfiber cloth over the tape goo in circular motions, removing the residue with pressure from your fingers as you rub. Follow up with rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth to remove oily residue.

    • 3). Try a citrus-oil cleanser such as Pure Citrus or DesolvIt, available commercially and excellent for removing tape and sticky residues. Spray directly onto the goo or dampen a soft cloth and rub over the area. Work into the plastic and roll off the residue as you work. Follow with soap and warm water.

    • 4). Combine baking soda and water to make a paste that is the consistency of oatmeal. Rub over the goo, scrubbing gently with a soft cloth to remove residue, being careful not to scratch the plastic as you rub. Rinse well when done.

    • 5). Test a small amount of lighter fluid on the plastic before using on larger areas. Lighter fluid should be safe on plastics such as acrylic, polycarbonate and styrene. Dip a cotton swab into a small amount of lighter fluid and rub onto the area in swirling motions to remove the goo residue. Immediately clean the bottle with soap and water after using the fluid residue; do not leave it on for extended periods of time.
