- 1). Click the "Start" button. If you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, browse to "All Programs" and "Accessories." Right-click "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator." If you are running Windows XP, click "Run." Type "cmd" without quotation marks in the dialog box that appears, and press "Enter."
- 2). Type "REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search" /v CurrentVersion /t REG_SZ /d 99 /f" at the command prompt and press "Enter." Windows displays the message "The operation completed successfully." This command adds a line to the Windows registry indicating to Internet Explorer 8 that you have installed Windows Search.
- 3). Close the command prompt and open Internet Explorer. The browser no longer displays the "Download Windows Search" message at the top of the screen.
