- 1). Sign up and use your local Freecycle list. Freecycle allows you to safely give and take items no longer needed by people in your community.
- 2). Call or check the website of your local municipal or county recycling center to see if it features a swap shop or other means to transfer your used electronics item to someone who may want it.
- 3). Donate your used electronics to a local nonprofit organization. If the device still functions and is fairly modern, many nonprofits would be happy to accept your devices. Call your favorite local nonprofit or refer to the TechSoup.org directory to find out who will accept your donation. Nonprofits will provide you with a donation letter for tax purposes.
- 4). Find a local computer and electronics recycling center. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency offers online help in finding those centers. Many centers will accept your used electronics for no or low fees.
- 5). Sell your used electronics through eBay, Craigslist or local advertising venues. Even if your equipment doesn't work, many electronics repairers buy used equipment for parts.
