- 1). Purchase a mission-style bed frame. Mission-style furniture is typically made of oak, and usually light in color. The natural wood grain and knots are highlighted rather than hidden.
- 2). Find mission-style dressers and nightstands. Hardware, such as drawer and cabinet handles, are incorporated into the furniture's design. Most hardware is either copper, pewter or other muted metals. Mission-style furniture will never feature brassy or shiny hardware.
- 3). Acquire mission-style chairs for lounging in the bedroom. The chairs usually have straight backs as well as flat slats. Oftentimes, mission-style chairs do not feature padded seats, so you can add seat cushions if you wish. If you're willing to pay a bit more, you can find mission-style chairs with leather seats.
- 4). Look for mission-style desks with geometric inlays. While mission-style furniture does not feature much ornamentation, it does often have inlays within pieces. You can protect delicate inlays by covering the desk top with a glass cover.
- 5). Choose lamps with stained glass shades. Generally, mission-style lamps feature brass, oak or muted copper bases.
- 6). Add throw rugs to the bedroom. Choose rugs in deep, earthy tones, such as green, red, burnt yellow and blue. If possible, find rugs in Southwest or Spanish styles.
- 7). Place mission-style accent items throughout the bedroom. Wooden boxes and vases complement the mission style well, as do bronze statues in geometrical designs.
