- 1). Turn off all of the power to the house. This will help you avoid shocking yourself. Test the power by turning the lights on and off.
- 2). Locate the nearest junction box to where you are going to place the recessed can lighting. If you do not find a junction box, you can add one to branch off onto the new lighting. This only involves splicing the lines and capping the new line off and running it to where the recessed lighting will be. This may require going into the attic and will make the job easier.
- 3). Measure the width of the cans. Transfer this distance to the ceiling. Cut a hole into the ceiling with the drywall saw. Pull the wires through the ceiling. There will be a black wire and a white wire.
- 4). Nip the end of each wire about 1/4 inch up and wrap the white white around the white screw on the lighting fixture. Wrap the black wire around the black screw on the fixture. Tighten down with a screwdriver.
- 5). The lighting comes with a special clip built into the system that will allow the fixture to grip the ceiling. They will push out and are springloaded. Push the fixtures into the gaps. Place the cover ring over the fixture. Turn the power back on.
