- 1). Measure the diameter of the opening for two glass flasks with a ruler. Find a rubber stopper that will fit both of the flasks.
- 2). Drill a 1/4-inch hole into the center of the rubber stoppers by using the power drill.
- 3). Insert one end of a 1/2-inch copper tube into the hole in one of the rubber stoppers. Push on the tube so 1 inch extends beyond the stopper. Insert the other end of the copper tube into the second stopper.
- 4). Fill 3/4 of one flask with water. Press the rubber stopper into the opening. Run the copper tubing to the other flask. Insert the second rubber stopper into the opening.
- 5). Apply heat to the flask containing the water. Continue to apply heat until the water comes to a boil. You will then begin to see steam flow up to the copper pipe. Water will then start to drip down into the other flask.
