How to Repair Male Ends of Garden Hoses

    • 1). Slice through the hose completely just behind the male garden hose end with a utility knife. Discard the old male end.

    • 2). Measure the inner diameter of the garden hose. This will determine what size male hose fitting replacement you need. Typical garden hoses are either 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch in diameter.

    • 3). Measure the outer diameter of the garden hose. The outer diameter will determine what size hose clamp to use. Hose clamps are sized to work within a range of diameters. Pick one where your garden hose diameter falls in the middle of the hose clamp's range.

    • 4). Open up the hose clamp using a screwdriver and slide it over the hose.

    • 5). Wipe a soap-and-water mixture onto the end of the hose barb of the male hose fitting replacement piece. This will allow it to slide into the hose more easily.

    • 6). Push the hose barb into the garden hose until it is completely inside.

    • 7). Slide the hose clamp down the hose until it is over the portion of the hose that contains the hose barb.

    • 8). Tighten the screw on the hose clamp to secure the hose to the hose barb. Your garden hose is now ready to use.
