- 1). Thread your needle with 1 yard of single thread. Do not knot the end. Add five size 11 seed beads. Tie the thread together so that the beads form a circle. Leave a 3-inch tail of thread at the end of the knot.
- 2). Thread on one bead. Insert your needle into the first bead in the circle beside the knot. Thread another bead. Insert your needle into the next bead in the circle. Continue to add one bead and insert your needle through the next bead in the circle until you have beads between each bead in the circle. Your bead design will look like a five pointed star.
- 3). Insert your needle through the first bead of the row you just created, row two. Your thread will be exiting one point of the star.
- 4). Add three seed beads and insert your needle into the next star point bead. Repeat this step four times. When you reach the end of the row, or your last star point bead, insert your needle through the first two beads of the row you just added, row three. Pull the thread taut and arrange the beads so that they form the point of a star.
- 5). Add five beads and insert your needle through the center bead of the next three beads, or star point, in row three. Repeat this step four more times.
- 6). Thread your needle down through your beadwork and exit one of the beads on the first circle of five. Thread a 4-mm crystal bead and stretch it across the center of the circle. This is the center of your beaded rose, so select a color that contrasts with your seed beads for added design interest. Insert your needle into the seed bead on the circle opposite the bead you exited at the beginning of this step.
- 7). Add three seed beads. Insert your needle through the closest bead that made up the original five point star. You are making the rose petals of your beaded flower. Continue to add three beads and anchor them successively to each of the original five point star beads.
- 8). Insert your needle up through two of the first set of three beads on your rose petal. Add five more seed beads and anchor them to the center bead in your next set of three on the rose petal. Continue to add rose petals in sets of three until your beaded rose is as full as you like. When you finish one row, layer into the next one by inserting your needle into the first center bead on the row you just finished.
- 9). Work your threaded needle back down through your work until you meet the thread tail from the original circle. Knot the tail and the needle thread together. Cut away the excess thread. Add a drop of jeweler's glue over the knot.
