Help With Cakewalk Pro Audio 9

    Starting a Project

    • CakeWalk Pro makes it very simple to start up a new audio project. Open the program on your computer. Click the "File" button and then select "New Audio Project." Click the "Track" menu and then select "New Track" to create your first audio track. Click the "Tempo" window at the bottom of the application. Click the field containing the tempo BPM value. Type the new BPM value you want for the song. This can range from 40 to 300 BPM. Cakewalk sets the default tempo to 120 BPM.

    Connecting MIDI Keyboard

    • You can connect a MIDI keyboard to CakeWalk Pro Audio by using USB data cable. MIDI keyboard often come with this cable. If yours does not, it's purchasable at most musical instrument shops. Click the "Options" menu within CakeWalk once the two devices have been connected with the cable. Select the "MIDI-Devices" option. Click your keyboard device in the Input and Output sections of the window. Click the "OK" button.

    Recording MIDI Devices

    • Click the "Track" menu and then select "New MIDI Track." Choose the instrument you want to use for the track. Click the "R" button inside this new track to arm it for recording. Click the red recording button at the bottom of the application to begin recording. Play your musical part on your MIDI keyboard. Click the "Stop" button when you have finished playing.

    Editing Audio

    • CakeWalk Pro Audio 9 allows you to adjust a track's volume and add stereo panning. Adjusting volume and panning is done by creating audio envelope over a specific track. Click the audio track you want to edit. Click the "Envelope" menu and then select "Create Volume" or "Envelop Create Pan." A straight line appears on the audio track. Click and drag the line upward to increase volume or downwards to decrease volume. If you created a pan envelope, moving the line upwards pans the track to left speaker. Moving it downward pans the track to the right speaker.
