Wicked, now playing in London

Wicked is the stirring musical based on the novel by Gregory Maguire. The show details the life of Elphaba who is destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West. The show outlines her troubled childhood and her schooldays in which she meets a young witch named Glinda (who becomes the Good Witch). The two become friends before the events leading up to the original Wizard of Oz tear them apart.

The show features several musical numbers, stunning sets, and dazzling special effects that have wowed audiences worldwide. And theatre-goers in London have the opportunity to witness the incredible spectacle for themselves.

The show helped to explode the careers of stars Idina Menzel (Elphaba) and Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda). Menzel, who was already known by theatre-goers for her role in "Rent" and has gone on to do several films, such as the Disney hit "Enchanted". Chenoweth went on to have many small roles in various television programmes and films, mostly cameos showcasing her singing abilities and has also had a successful career as a vocal artist, releasing well received albums.

Wicked first opened on Broadway in 2003 and was an instant hit, audiences were won over by the show's charm and spectacle. Since then, it has embarked on several American tours, as well as heading overseas. In 2006 Wicked landed in the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London's West End. The historic Apollo Victoria Theatre is located in the historic West End of London and is in close proximity to several fantastic restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, and Big Ben. Apollo Victoria Theatre is easily accessed by public transportation through the nearby Victoria Tube Station and several local bus services.

The London production currently features Rachel Tucker (well known from her appearance in the popular talent show "I'll Do Anything" in 2008) is currently playing Elphaba. Louise Dearman, a veteran of several stage productions, currently plays Glinda.

Wicked is a show not to be missed, and theatre-goers owe it to themselves to witness this enchanting musical while they still can.
