How to Machine Clean Upholstery

    • 1). Vacuum the upholstery thoroughly before attempting to clean. Remove any cushions and vacuum underneath. If necessary, pull the furniture away from the wall to reach the back.

    • 2). Fill the machine with upholstery cleaner and water. Consult the machine's owner's manual for the specific amounts and fill locations.

    • 3). Plug in the machine and turn it on. Attach the upholstery hose and activate it with a switch if necessary.

    • 4). Run the upholstery attachment along the fabric in one direction, squeezing the trigger to release the cleaning solution. Move slowly in the opposite direction to suck up the cleaner. Repeat the process over the entire surface, moving slowly and slightly overlapping sections. Clean the cushions in the same manner.

    • 5). Turn off and unplug the machine. Remove the dirty water tank and empty it down the drain. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and emptying the hoses. Allow the upholstery to dry for a few hours.

    • 6). Replace the cushions and fluff up the fabric with a soft towel if necessary.
