There are several kinds of home alarm systems.
The most common type is the burglar alarm.
While you might want to consider this type of alarm, you should also be open to the other types of alarm systems.
So do any of these work? Some systems will work better than others, and this is mainly based on the quality of the system, reliability of the monitoring company (if monitoring is part of the package) and appropriateness of the system's installation in the home.
Burglar alarm systems have the main job of deterring burglars.
Findings indicate that they are able to deter intrusions up to 90 percent of the time.
A surveillance system may not trigger an alarm but can directly inform you of an intrusion.
A good monitoring company will be able to relay information to the police in due time.
Wireless systems are highly effective if placed in strategic locations in the house, such as facing the windows, doors, back doors, driveway and/or patio.
Finally, motion detectors are effective if they can distinguish between human intruders and pets, other animals, or cars.
Some people let others know that their house has home alarm systems with signs, believing that this could further deter intruders.
However, studies indicate that burglars are actually more drawn to homes that do have alarms.
It is said it's because intruders would assume that you have valuable items worth protecting.
So do these systems really work? The answer is yes, if you buy the right ones, install them strategically, and don't let anyone know about them!
