Summertime and the living are easy.
Yet summertime can be a dangerous time for safety concerns both for you and your family, whether at home or at the summer lake beach cottage or chalet.
Stay out of "hot water "this summer and fall time periods.
In the hot summer time weather, one of the nicest ways to stay cool is to get into that water - whether it in the backyard swimming pool or into the cool lake water.
Always make it a practice to keep safety as the uppermost priority in your mind.
Water and electricity is a dangerous pair.
Even a moist pool deck or a grass lawn , that has just received a sun shower can be a deadly mixed , especially when mixed along with the wet skin you have as a result of swimming in that backyard pool or in the lake or seashore.
What are the ways that you can protect yourself, as well as your family and friends or other's children? What are the basic rules and guidelines for safety at the lake vacation cottage or camp or in the backyard water recreation areas? First make it a rule and practice never ever to touch electric cords, switches or appliances when you are standing in water or even have wet hands.
It may well be more than a simple jolt that you receive.
Even if not disabling it sure is uncomfortable and alarming.
On top of that some people are much more susceptible to simple electric shocks.
The electric current that may only seem like a mild jolt, and even a prank to some, may cause other people serious electro-cardiac disturbances.
Who needs a restive vacation or long weekend plans altered to include an ambulance ride and a visit to the local hospital emergency department? If extension cords or electrical appliances that are connected to an ac wall socket fall into the water- for example even be an ac adapter to charge an ipod or cell phone, do not try to redefine them until you actually have turned off the power at the main switch.
Of course make sure that you are perfectly dry, and not wet, when you turn off the main power switches.
If you do use appliances that are meant to be used near water - such as a pressure washer or wet / dry vacuums , including shop vacs, make it a general policy and procedure to read in depth the manufacturers instructions and manual and follow these instructions and recommendations to the letter.
It's no accident that the explosives industry has one of the best safety records in industry.
It may be a dangerous job; however safety rules are followed to the letter.
If you can - always choose and use weatherproof electrical devices outdoors.
It's well worth the extra cost and works to source out and obtain these devices.
Why take needless chances? In terms of safety around the backyard or even the apartment or condo complex swimming pools some of the ways to reduce the risk of electrocution accidents around and near the pool include - to keep electric radios, televisions and other appliances away from pools and water.
If at all possible - both logistically and within any budgets plan to have a licensed electrical contractor install and maintain the pool wiring and electrical equipment.
When the pool area is built or upgrade maintenance done - plan not to locate the pool area near or under electric power lines.
It be a staunch policy that those involved with the pool , as those who safeguard , lifeguard and maintain the pool areas know where all the electrical switches and circuit breakers are for the pool areas, hot tub equipment as well as for light fixtures are and as well know how to turn them off in a flash in any emergency.
As well check any underwater lights on a regular safety check for cracks in the glass or defective waterproof seals.
Lastly when conducting swimming and hot tub pool maintenance if at all possible use long handled tools with non electrical conductive handles and keeps these tools far away from any nearby power lines.
Summertime is a great time for fun, for entertaining friends and family.
Just ensure whether in the backyard, condo or apartment swimming pool ,at the seashore or lake cabin or camp that safety measures are employed anywhere water and electricity come into close contact.
You can never be too sure or too careful.
