Hi everyone, this is Gene. I'm a graphic designer and an illustrator. I've been working in the industry for about 15 years and today we're going to be working in one of my favorite mediums which is duct tape. And I'm going to show you how to make duct tape flip flops. Now this is just your basic bare minimum duct tape footwear. If you're really excited and you're really ambitious you can make duct tape KISS boots, like the band KISS, which the heels will probably be about this big. It'll take about 15,20 rolls of duct tape to get like a six inch heel. So we're just going to start with the flip flops because it's a very low profile and you'll have something that you can actually put on your feet and wear although I wouldn't recommend walking across the country in these things because they're probably not going to make it that far. But it's pretty cool for a costume or if you just want to walk around the house with duct tape and not get anything on your feet. Anyway lets get started. Alright, so the first thing I did here is I take a piece of poster board, much like this one here, and I was fortunate enough to find some poster board that actually has some graphs, I don't know if you can see them on the camera but this is essentially graph paper poster board. And then all I did was I just put my foot on it like this here. And I apologize, I just took my sock off so there's a couple little fuzzes there. But anyway trace your foot out on the graph paper. And I've already done that on this piece of paper here. As you can see, yes I have a giant foot. It probably took up the whole frame. And then what you want to do is cover the foot area in duct tape. And make sure you go all the same direction with this duct tape because otherwise, you know, it'll look all crazy and haphazard. And as you can see here I've also cut out another rectangle area and I've covered that in duct tape as well. So what we're going to do now is you want to take the foot area, now keep in mind you can also use some foam padding and you can duct tape some foam padding in here so it's got a little more cushion. But what you want to do is you want set your foot onto the flop area. And take the rectangle, put it underneath the bottom, the base, and make sure that you have enough room so that your foot fits in there snugly. And make sure that you pinch the bottom parts in so you have a nice crease. Then you can take that out, and then as you can see I've already attached the duct tape sort of horizontally across the foot so what I'm going to do is that same thing on the bottom now. And I'm just going to use the crease that we already have in here. And I have pre-marked where this needs to attach. So take a couple pieces of duct tape and go in exactly the same direction that you started in. I'm actually just going to lay this flat for right now because I know where it's going to go. So go in the direction you started in and lay another piece of duct tape on top so that it attaches nicely. Then you can trim off any excess later on. And then flip it around and do the same thing on the other side with another piece of duct tape, like so. Now you can see this looks kind of ugly. What you want to do next is take a few more pieces of duct tape and just smooth them along the bottom so that you cover this seam here. I'm just going to do it with a tiny piece just to get rid of the shadow there. But you want to take, and so you don't have all these jaggy edges you want to take longer pieces, like full pieces of duct tape that go across the entire outer perimeter there. And now you have a flip flop that you can actually wear on your foot. So there you have it. The absolute basic step 1 in duct tape footwear. That's duct tape flip flops. Next time we should try making some sneakers. Thanks for watching guys. I hope you had some fun.
