Monterey, CA Affordable Care Act: Friend Or Enemy? View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California
The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has joined a flurry of public entities investigating the Valley Urology Associates. Doctors in the group are being accused of something which is all too common, referring business to an affiliated company, and reaping big profits. If it is illegal, they should be locked up. However, my concern is that Doctors are being pushed to do anything they can to bring in extra income in light of state and federal budget cuts. My favorite Doctor "retired" about 15 years ago. He told me candidly at the time that 10 years prior he had 3 nurses, 1 person doing billing and after deducting all of this overheard he was still making over $200K per year. Flash forward, when he "retired" he told me that he had three billing people, could not afford even one nurse and, making less than $50,000 per year, was headed towards bankruptcy. This should not be happening in our country, but it is. Your family Doctor cannot afford to pay his rent, he is pressured into selling his practice to a large medical group and then incented to bring in more clients for new business. Or, he opens up an affiliated group which does CT scans and other tests at a ridiculous cost. The system is broken. I hope President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act fixes it, but unfortunately I am not very confident that it will. http://www.montereyherald.com/local/ci_22201429/fbi-joins-investigation-doctors-at-salinas-valley-urology
About Richard Kuehn & Family inHome Caregiving:
After more than a decade of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family member I was dissatisfied with service from local caregiving agencies. I became convinced of the need for a service which provides very personal assistance to elderly and founded Family inHome Caregiving serving the Monterey Peninsula.
