I don't know about you but there is nothing better than a great trip outdoors on a sunny day with the family.
My kids love it and we all chatter on about our trips for days, even months after.
A summer day trip should mean fun in the sun, however I have had some disasters, from a nasty bee sting to sunburn..
so I have learnt the hard way.
That is why I am listing nine useful tips that you can benefit from when you are on your next, and subsequent trips with the family.
Try these tips...
Beware of the sun, it can be dangerous, causing pain for a few days and skin cancer in the long term.
Stay in the shade around midday, keep covered up, wear a hat and always apply and re-apply a high sun factor cream to combat burning.
Wear light cool clothing for comfort.
Beat the travel bug..
There is nothing worse than feeling nauseous before or on a journey.
Try taking a pure ginger drink.
This herb is excellent relief for travel sickness.
If you have an allergy then be aware and avoid the stuff you're allergic to.
If you are a hay fever sufferer then check the pollen count before you go.
If you are affected then try quercetin, apparently it is a good natural antihistamine.
Exercise caution...
If you are doing sports, then warm up before it, also scout the environment for hazards.
did you know that tripping over tent pegs is the most common injury at summer's music festivals? Watch the blisters.
You don't realise how many miles you can clock up wandering around a theme park or festival.
So wear a nice comfortable pair of shoes that you've worn before and also a pair of socks.
Forward plan and organise.
It will prevent any arguments.
If you are going to be outside, have a plan 'B' just in case the weather is unpredictable.
Pack good food..
You want substantial, nutritious foods with lots of protein.
Try goat's cheese, egg sandwiches and salads with green fibrous vegetables.
Don't forget to ensure you drink plenty of water.
Also take some snacks like seeds, nuts and oatcakes.
It will save you money and stop anyone eating crisps, chocolate or sodas as you won't need to stop off at any garage if tummies are rumbling! Finally pack a complementary first-aid kit...
just in case, pack some comfrey oil for bruises, arnica for shock and lavender for stings.
That's it, nine very useful tips for you and your family to ensure you all enjoy a carefree, happy jaunt!
