- 1). Any pretty basket can be made into a gift, but you aren't necessarily bound to this option. If they're the right shape and size, you can use containers like a pail, a hatbox, a lunchbox, a toy box, or even large toy cars and firetrucks, using the seating area for the gifts. Make sure the container you choose sits flat without wobbling and can hold all you plan to put into it.
- 2). Make a list of the things you want to fill your basket with, considering the noshes your recipient particularly likes. Be sure to give a choice of nibbles for a little variety, so add a few salty or savory things, like trail mix or gourmet cheese, if your basket is mostly cookies and candy. Even if yours is a themed basket, such as an all-chocolate basket, slip in a bag of gourmet coffee or tea as a grace note.
- 3). Arrange the contents of your basket for the best effect. In general, the tallest items should go in the back and the shortest in the front. You can tilt one or two bags for a playful effect if you like, but the contents should generally look orderly and neat.
- 4). Adorn your gift with a bow, either on the basket handle, or centered on the front of the container. It doesn't hurt to throw in a few playful props, such as a small flag, toy, or other minor nonfood gift. The fun touches are often the most appreciated. If you think your recipient would enjoy it, you can make the prop a little tongue-in-cheek, such as a bobblehead doll or a cartoon caricature.
