How to Remove Bag Worms

    • 1). Search the plants on the property to locate as many bagworms as possible. Their bags resemble small brown pine cones and can be up to 2 inches long. Search plants that have recently lost their color for no apparent reason, as this may indicate bagworm damage.

    • 2). Purchase an insecticide spray that states on its label that it kills bagworms. Spray all the bagworms you can find until they are dripping wet. Do this in mid- to late June to exterminate young larvae for the most effectiveness, advises Mary Jane Frogge, University of Nebraska-Lincoln extension associate in horticulture.

    • 3). Pull the bagworms' bags from the plant, including the silk bands that wrap around the plant, and put them in the garbage sack. Press the air out of the sack and seal it. Smash the bag thoroughly by stepping on it to destroy the bagworms, then throw the sack away.
