- 1). Visit the Drop.io homepage to get started with your file sharing. You won’t have to register for an account to share your chosen files. If you would like to edit some of the enabled features at a later time, then you’ll have the option of including a password to access the administrator features. Create a specialized username to identify your new Drop.io web page. You’ll be able to type it in the space at the top of the homepage. Generally, it has an alpha-numeric code already in place. However, you can quickly change this by typing a different name in the same area. The new name must be at least 7 letters long. If you’d rather have a shorter name, then you’ll need to pay a premium fee for that service.
- 2). Upload the files you would like to share. Click the “Add Files” button and a popup window will appear for you to pick the files you want. In order to select several at one time, just simply hold the "CTRL" key down and click on each one. There is a storage space limit of 100 MB for every free user. You can also choose to pay a premium price to get a larger storage capacity.
- 3). Customize the settings of your shared files by adding an optional password. This will help to prevent the general public from viewing your personal files. Just remember to include the password with the web page URL. Viewers will not be able to listen or view the files you have setup in this personal space. If you do not mind others viewing them as they across them, then skip the password option in this step.
- 4). Select the time period you would like your shared files to be left on Drop.io. You’ll have the option of choosing from as little as one day or as much as an entire year. Choose the best option that will suit your needs. Depending on what you are sharing with others, you may want to set a shorter time period and switch out files frequently.
- 5). Set the viewer’s access by picking one of several options. You can limit them to a “View Only” mode that will not let them make any changes. If you’d like them to be able to view files and add their own, then choose the “View and Add” mode. You can also give them full access to these files by selecting the “View, Add, and Delete” mode. When you’ve finished these steps, then click the red “Drop It” button to complete this process.
- 6). Add a brand new password in the popup screen that will appear after uploading your files to Drop.io. Doing this will let you change the password settings, delete content, or reset the drop expiration. If you would rather not have access to these extra features, then click the “Or You Can Continue Without One” link at the bottom of the page. When you’re ready to share files over the Internet, give this new URL to others.
