Side Effects of Artificial Sweeteners

People trying to lose weight realize they must curtail their sugar consumption.  Unaware of the side effects of artificial sweeteners,  they turn to Equal, Sweet & Low, and Splenda and they switch to diet pop and diets snacks but wonder why they are not losing weight.

The fact of the matter is that it's the artificial sweeteners that are keeping them fat by overwhelming their livers.  You see, one of the most important functions of the liver in weight loss is breaking down everything that enters the body from healthy veggies to unhealthy fast food.  It distinguishes between the nutrients we need and the dangerous ones that have to be filtered out of our bloodstream.

When the liver gets clogged with toxins, like artificial sweeteners, it can't effectively process nutrients and fat.  Consequently, you will either gain weight or you will be unable to lose weight.

A toxin is anything the body doesn't recognize as a natural food source.  In order to produce an artificial sweetener, sugar must undergo a chemical process which changes its molecular structure converting it into fake sugar.  Because this fake sugar molecule doesn't exist in nature, the body can't properly metabolize it.

Therefore, the more artificial sweeteners you use in a day, the more overwhelmed the liver becomes and the less able it is to properly process fat.  And if the liver can't do its job, you can't lose weight.

And it's not just the artificial sweetener you put in your coffee.  Almost every diet product out there contains some form of artificial sweetener.

One side effect of artificial sweeteners is their ability to increase our craving for sweets.  Saccharin is 300 times sweeter than sugar while aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar.  Topping the list is sucralose which is 600 times sweeter than sugar.  Any healthy diet plan is bound to fail if you can't get rid of your sugar craving!

Yet another side effect of these artificial sweeteners is they increase your appetite.  Because these contain no nutrients, your body doesn't feel like it's been fed and the brain keeps sending a message to "keep eating".  So even after you've eaten a healthy meal accompanied by your diet pop, you'll soon start feeling hungry again and you'll continue to eat, pushing your diet plans out the window.

So you say what alternative is there?  Well, there is a sweet herb called Stevia that's at least 200 times sweeter than sugar.  It's virtually calorie free, it doesn't spike your blood sugar, it increases energy and it aids in digestion.  And it's not toxic.

Most health food stores carry Stevia and it can be used just like artificial sweeteners.  It can even be used in baking.

The side effects of artificial sweeteners are just too great and if you're serious about losing weight, put them on your list of foods to avoid.
