How Do I Do a System Recovery From a Compaq Desktop With Windows XP?

    • 1). Backup your files from the "My Documents" folder and from any other folders you may have created.

    • 2). Start your computer and press F10 at the Compaq startup screen.

    • 3). Click "Yes" at the prompt to use System Restore and restart your computer. Your computer will reboot into the Compaq System Recovery.

    • 4). Select the recovery method of your choice. Select "Non-Destructive System Recovery" to perform a restore without affecting your data (documents and settings). Press "Next" and then click "Yes" at the "System Recovery" prompt. The recovery will begin. Select "Destructive System Recovery" to reformat the hard drive. This method will remove all personal data and applications from your computer. A backup of all data should be performed if you choose this method. Click "Advanced Options" from the recovery screen and click "Next" to begin the recovery.
