A Close Encounter in Cuba

Rare UFO Report from Cuba
The account of an incident that occurred on October 15, 1995, is quite rare. It comes from the country of Cuba, a place where news to the outside world is controlled. The news of the event only recently reached investigators in the free world.

It was taken from the Cuban Academy of Sciences, and reveals a close encounter of the third kind that took place in the village of Torriente, Matanzas Province, Cuba.

There was a light rain falling as 74-year-old farmer, Adolfo Serrate began his day. As was the usual, he was headed out to work in the corn fields. At about 9:20 AM, he decided to take a break and smoke a cigarette. As he relaxed for a few minutes, he gazed into the sky.

The Sighting of the UFO

He was surprised to see a round, flying object that was getting lower and lower in the sky. It made no sound as it descended toward a nearby field. It appeared to be landing. Captivated by the UFO, he positioned himself in a safe place; in the edge of the cornfields.

Serrate had a reason to feel overly concerned. A cousin of his had disappeared in this very area only two years earlier. The reason for his disappearance had never been established. Yes, there were rumors and theories, but nothing had been proven, leaving the case open and unsolved.

From where Serrate was, about 60 - 80 meters away, he was able to see the UFO come to a gentle touch-down, employing a type of landing gear. He could clearly see the craft now.

The object was made of a very smooth substance, which had different shades of green, like camouflage.

Description of the UFO

He estimated the size of the object similar to a standard sized automobile. He saw a rounded top made of glass. He surmised this was the control cabin of the UFO. Serrate had been an aircraft mechanic in the armed forces, and was familiar with all types of conventional planes and helicopters. This was not anything he had seen before.

To him, the object looked like a turtle, with its top and various green colors. Soon, he saw something move; it was a door of a type. It opened, and to his total shock, a humanoid creature walked out of the craft. He was not able to see inside the ship, though he tried.

The Humanoid Being

The being's features were not visible, as it wore a cover-all outfit, which was colored like the craft. The only deviance from the green colors was the humanoid's face mask. Serrate thought it was similar to gas masks he had seen during his role as a mechanic.

The being seemed to wander around the UFO like he was seeing the fields for the first time. At times, he would bend down and uproot some of the flora. This was probably done to take samples back for study. For a moment, he walked to the back of the craft, then returned to the front, and leaned against the exterior of the UFO.

Then the being made some kind of gesture to the inside of the UFO. Serrate believed that he was signaling a command to other beings on the inside of the craft. In a few moments, the being went back into the ship. The door closed behind him, leaving no trace of where it had been.

Serrate, still hidden, waited and watched for what might happen next. Soon, he felt the force of air on his face. This burst of air or energy effect could be seen on the cornstalks and other vegetation around him. As this force continued, the craft began to ascend.

The UFO Ascends

As it rose higher into the sky, there was no indication of what was powering the craft. He could see no fire from an engine, no smoke, and he could hear nothing. It rose just as silently as it had landed. When the UFO reached about 50 feet in the air, Serrate could see a thin, blue flame.

It was not coming from the bottom as one would expect, but from the top. He could see no source for the flame. At about 50 feet altitude, the object then flew horizontally toward the South. This direction would take it in the direction of the National Highway. All the time, no sound could be heard coming from the strange, unknown craft as it disappeared from view.

The Report and Evidence

When he was certain that the craft was gone for good, Serrate ran back home, and called the Police. He was still quite shaken from his sighting. He told them that he thought he may have seen an "enemy aircraft engaged in sabotage." He was totally at a loss to explain the presence and appearance of the unknown being.

After news of the sighting began to be known, authorities looked for additional witnesses in the area. They were able to find several others who corroborated Serrate's story of the craft in flight. But, the old farmer was the only one who reported the craft landing, and the appearance of the unknown, humanoid being.

Further validating Serrate's sighting, investigators found physical evidence at the site of the landing. There were leaves scorched black by whatever energy source propelled the craft. They also found footprints at the site. Traces of the material were turned over to the Cuban Academy of Sciences for evaluation.

What are we to think about the account of Adolfo Serrate? If we had nothing but the word of a 74-year-old man, we could just dismiss it. But, in this case, we have not only physical trace elements, but footprints at the site, and the eyewitness testimony of others who saw the same or similar UFO in the skies that very day.

The only thing lacking would be a report from the Academy of Sciences on their findings. There has been no word from the agency, and we must assume there will not be any forthcoming. The case is a strong one, however, based on what we do know.
