- 1). Prepare the battery for charging. Remove any corrosion from the battery terminals with a battery post cleaner. Place the cleaner over the battery posts and move it around and back and forth until the corrosion is removed from the terminals.
- 2). Connect the smart charger. Place the positive battery charger on the positive terminal of the battery. This will be the larger of the two posts. Place the negative cable from the charger on the negative battery post last. Reversing the order here will cause sparks to fly from the posts. Allow the charger to slow charge for 24 hours.
- 3). Maintain the battery. When the battery is fully charged, the smart charger will turn itself off. It will periodically turn itself on and check the batteries. If needed, the charger will trickle power to the batteries and keep them fully charged. You need to remove the charger only when you want to use the vehicle that is powered by the battery.
