Words on the cartoon: "Woman Devotes Her Time to Gossip and Clothes Because She Has Nothing Else to Talk About. Give Her Broader Interests and She Will Cease to Be Vain and Frivolous."
This cartoon is from the seventh of seven scrapbooks compiled by Elizabeth Smith Miller and her daughter Anne Fitzhugh Miller during their work with the woman suffrage movement in Geneva, New York. The scrapbooks now reside in the U.S. Library of Congress, part of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) Collection. The cartoonist is Merle De Vore Johnson.
