    Lunesta

    • Lunesta (generic name eszopiclone) is targeted toward people who have both problems falling asleep and staying asleep. Lunesta may cause dizziness, headaches, morning drowsiness, memory loss and sleepwalking.

    Ambien

    • Ambien is for people who have trouble falling asleep. Ambien CR is intended for those who need help falling asleep and staying asleep. Side effects may include memory loss, dizziness, headaches and withdrawal symptoms.

    Rozarem

    • Rozarem (generic name ramelteon) is not known to cause dependence or withdrawal symptoms. However, it is intended for short-term use and may cause side effects and drug interactions.

    Sonata

    • Sonata (generic name zaleplon) may cause withdrawal symptoms and may be habit-forming. Side effects may include dizziness, numbness, nausea, anxiety, aggression, hallucinations and others.

    Non-prescription

    • You can also find non-prescription sleeping pills, such as diphenhydramine (in brand names Sominex and Nytol) and doxylamine (in Unisom).
