- 1). Check your computer's Internet connection. Make sure the Ethernet cable running from the high-speed modem is inserted completely into the computer, or look to see if the computer is connected to the local wireless Internet source (open your Internet browser and if it loads, you know you have a current Internet connection).
- 2). Attempt to download a different file in RealPlayer. If the alternate file downloads, you know the problem is with the actual file (the link may be disconnected), and not with the RealPlayer software. There isn't anything you can do about this until the link is corrected.
- 3). Adjust the online status of RealPlayer. Open the program, then click "Tools" followed by "Preferences." Select "Connection," then "Assume I am online" and click "OK." Restart RealPlayer, then attempt to download the file again.
- 4). Open the "Control Panel" on the computer (located on the "Start" menu), then select the Internet options icon. Choose the firewall options and click "Firewall Exceptions." Click the "Browse" button, then choose "RealPlayer." This sets the RealPlayer as an exception to the systems firewall. A firewall prevents a program from access the Internet, so if RealPlayer is not on the exceptions list, it is not able to gain access to the Internet.
