How to Rig a Shark Leader

    • 1). Cut a 5-yard length of 100-pound-test monofilament line from a filler spool to use as a shock leader. Connect the shock leader to your main 50-pound line with a double uni knot.

    • 2). Place a weight slide on the shock leader followed by a plastic bead. Tie a heavy-duty barrel swivel to the shock leader with a Palomar knot. Attach a 6-ounce or heavier pyramid weight on the weight slide.

    • 3). Cut a 5-foot length of 400-pound leader wire with wire cutters to use as a leader for the shark rig.

    • 4). Slide a crimp collar onto one end of the wire leader. Feed 6 inches of the leader through the eye of the barrel swivel. Hold a 6-inch length beside the main leader length. Slide the crimp collar down over the 6-inch length and crimp it closed with pliers. Trim excess wire extending from the collar with wire cutters.

    • 5). Slide another crimp collar onto the opposite end of the leader wire. Insert 6 inches of wire through the eye of a 12/0 or larger bait holder hook.

    • 6). Hold the 6-inch length of wire beside the main leader length. Slide the crimp collar down over the 6-inch length and crimp it tightly with pliers. Cut excess wire extending from the crimp with pliers.
