Guide Review - Hydrogyn - Bombshell
Hydrogyn walks that line between pop metal and hard rock. Their songs are very catchy and melodic with flawless production.
Musically they are a combination of Heart, Vixen and Evanescence. Some songs are hair metal sounding, others have a classic rock vibe and there are a couple that sound very contemporary.
Julie Westlake is the lead vocalist, and from looking at the album cover it's obvious she is very attractive. More importantly she can sing. Her voice has a nice tone and is very expressive. The guitar work by Jeff Westlake is also superb. In addition to their original material there's also a cover version of the classic AC/DC song "Back In Black." It's an interesting twist to hear it done with a female vocalist.
Kudos as well to producer Michael Wagener. He's produced some really big name acts and the sound of this album is crystal clear. Both the ballads and the rockers have great sound quality.
