Sharkie explains how you can easily reproduce and study constellations using a film container.
- Age Guideline: 6 Years and Up
- Time Required: 10 minutes (Does not include drying time)
The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumstances.
Materials Needed:
- Black Film Container
- Push Pin or Tack
Instructions:
Remove and discard the cover of a black film container. Trace around the bottom of the film container on scrap paper. Find a picture of a simple constellation. Use a pen or pencil to draw out the constellation inside the circle you drew.
Once you have your constellation drawn out, draw a circle around the first circle you traced, approximately 1/4-inch large than the traced circle. Cut around the outside circle.
Place your circle over the bottom of the film container, centering the small circle over the bottom of the film container. Using the push pin, push holes on the lines of the constellation. When you are done, you can discard the paper. Now you should be able to hold the film container up towards a light source, look into the open end, and see the constellation!
