Learning Guitar Choices: Taylor Swift Or The Blues

TO learn guitar songs is not the same as learning saxophone songs or violin songs.
If you are going to learn songs on guitar one needs to understand that unless you want to learn to play bass, you will not be playing single note melodies as songs.
They are simply melodies as one would play on any solo instrument.
Keep in mind two things: 1.
Melodic form 2.
Harmonic accompaniment Guitar songs require self accompaniment style.
At minimum you should have at least two notes being played at the same time.
Like I said, if you want to play single notes only and you want to play guitar, maybe you want to learn bass guitar instead.
There are some easy guitar lessons where simple chord strumming is taught.
Taylor Swift songs never seem to be more than three or four of the same chords over and over.
If you want to learn blues guitar it only takes three maybe four chords that you need to sound like you are playing in that genre.
But Blues is a whole other art form in itself.
It will take a long time to learn the groove and the sound of the Blues.
There is a muting technique involved with the right hand.
There are much trickier chords with little chromatic fills.
Most of all there is the soul of the blues.
It takes many hours of listening.
What's more, you will have to learn guitar solo work as well.
Here is your chance to play single notes; but the blues guitar lead is not just a pentatonic scale.
This is a trap that young players fall into.
They think if they can play the pentatonic scale that they can play blues.
Sooner or later they realize that it's not about the scale but about inflection.
Now if you want to learn guitar fast, then I suggest going the Taylor Swift route.
All you really need to do is finger those three chords and strum.
But if you want to take your time and learn an art form, then the blues can be a world of reward.
You can go beyond learning acoustic guitar, or electric guitar and just learn how to bend a string correctly.
As Eric Clapton said "It takes a long time".
It will be worth it.
