- 1). Lower the tailgate of your Silverado and locate the retaining screws for the taillight assembly. There are two of them, and they sit in the edge of the body where the tailgate meets the fender.
- 2). Remove the two retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver, and pull the taillight assembly out until you can access the electrical connector on the back of the assembly. Lift the locking tab on the connector and remove it from the taillight assembly.
- 3). Turn the assembly over so the back of the assembly faces up. Locate the two bolts on the back of the assembly that retain the bulb holder to the taillight assembly. Remove them with a socket and ratchet, then lift the bulb holder off the assembly. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket and discard the bulb.
- 4). Place a small amount of dielectric grease into the connector on the bulb holder, then insert the new bulb into the holder. Be sure the bulb seats completely in the holder or it may not light when reassembled.
- 5). Install the bulb holder onto the back of the taillight assembly, then insert the two retaining bolts into the assembly. Tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet until they are snug. Do not over-tighten them; they thread into plastic and could easily strip.
- 6). Plug the electrical connector into the rear of the assembly, pushing it in until the locking tab engages fully. Slide the assembly back into the truck body and install the two retaining screws.
- 7). Tighten the retaining screws until the taillight sits flush to the body and is not loose. Close the tailgate. Test the light by turning on the switch and checking to see that the new bulbs light up.
