These molecules break up the stains into smaller pieces and as light passes through the teeth, it makes them look lighter.
It would take a couple of hours, overnight or a few days, depending on the product, before results are seen.
Some whitening gels also contain other substances such as sodium hydroxide, carbomer, glycerin, sodium fluoride that work to strengthen the teeth.
Now when it comes to dental procedures, a dentist uses protective gel and rubber shield during the process.
These devices guard the gums, lips, and other soft tissues of the mouth.
A plastic tray that containing bleaching or whitening substance like carbamide peroxide is fitted into the mouth.
Alternatively, a dentist may also just apply a gel substance that contains a bleaching solution on the surface of the teeth.
The dentist may also use a special light to help activate this whitening agent.
These processes, which would take from 30 minutes to one hour per visit, can make the teeth look up to three shades lighter afterwards.
Teeth whitening is not as simple as you think.
