How to Replace the Toyota Tundra Spark Plug Wires

    • 1). Disconnect a single wire from the spark plug by grabbing onto and twisting the rubber boot until it is free. Do not grasp the wire itself to remove, as it does not effectively remove the boot area from the plug.

    • 2). Disconnect the other end of the wire from the ignition coil by lifting up on the locking mechanism, or claw, and pulling the end of the wire away from the coil.

    • 3). Replace the wire with a new one specific to your engine model. Reconnect the end to the ignition coil and make sure the locking mechanism clips back into place. Then, secure the boot end over the top of the spark plug making sure not to bend the wire sharply during connection.

    • 4). Move on to the next damaged wire, if applicable. Continue replacing wires one by one until all damaged wires have been replaced.
