In Flames Interview

The Swedish band In Flames played Ozzfest for the first time in the summer of 2005. They also released the DVD "Used And Abused." I had the chance to see In Flames perform and interviewed bassist Peter Iwers after their set.

Chad Bowar: Are you still having fun on Ozzfest, or are you ready for it to be over?
Peter Iwers: It doesn't matter how sick of it you get, when it comes down to the last week you get a little sad.

I feel like I could do it for another month. I'm still having fun.

You're on the main stage playing for 20 minutes. Would you rather do that, or play the second stage and play longer?
Doesn't really matter where we play. I'd like to play longer. I don't know what it's like to play the second stage. For us we have seven albums out and it's hard to put together a set list. We can't even play one song from each record. We only play 5 songs. Right now we're focusing on the last 3 or 4 records.

Have you been playing shows on off days, too?
Yes. Most of them we do with Shadows Fall, some of them with Mudvayne. Some of them we headline. We play anywhere from 35 to 90 minutes. It's a lot of fun.

The Used and Abused DVD has recently been released. What's on it?
People can expect one of the best DVDs so far. We tried to cover every angle of it, every area. We've been waiting to put out a DVD. We wanted to put everything on it. It's behind the scenes, shows, all the videos from the latest record, everything that we would like to see if our favorite band put out a DVD.

It's a really long DVD, and something you want to check out. We focused on the latest two or three years. We filmed our entire tour around the world. The response has been very positive. People really like the length of it.

You released a special edition of last year's Soundtrack To Your Escape CD. What are the extras?
There's a bonus track, a few live tracks from Wacken Open Air Festival, some other things.

What's the difference between the European Festivals and a tour like Ozzfest?
There's always a wide selection of music in Europe. Wacken is a metal festival, where you'll get everything from power metal to extreme death metal. Every angle is covered. I like European festivals because most of them are music festivals and it doesn't have to be metal. Last year we played with Cypress Hill and a bunch of artists that had nothing to do with each other.

Have you had a chance to check out bands on the second stage?
Yes. It's weird. When we play off shows we play late and stay up late. I'm not a morning person. Once I get up in the morning I'll go check out bands. I saw our Swedish friends The Haunted and Arch Enemy. One day I saw Wicked Wisdom. I've seen most of them.
