How to Make Blog Header Elements

    • 1). Decide what you want your header to look like. If your blog focuses on cooking, maybe some images of baked goods or a nice kitchen would make a good background. You can use one single image for your background, or if there is not one image that captures what you are picturing, feel free to crop together two or more in your photo editing program. Once you have your images, you are ready to move on.

    • 2). Open your photo editing program and open the file for your first image. Set your canvas at 800 pixels wide by 140 pixels tall. Set your resolution to 72 dpi. Anything larger than this will get cropped or deformed by the blog software to fit the space, ruining the header you are about to create.

    • 3). Crop your image to fit the canvas size. You can move your image around to put the desired elements into the canvas field by simply grabbing it with the mouse cursor and moving as desired. Once you have it placed, use your crop tool to create a crop area that is also 800x140, making sure to place it directly over the canvas borders. Hit crop and your background element will be complete.

    • 4). Use the text tool to place whatever words you would like onto the header to create a logo. If you want to call it "My Cooking Blog" simply type that in, choose a font that best suits your personality and the vibe you are going for with your blog and you now have a logo. In some cases, it is nice to place a smaller background behind the text in order for it to be more legible and defined from the background. For this, create a rectangle, circle or whatever shape you desire with the shape tool and place it on the layer behind the logo. Fill this shape with whatever color best ties your text and backgrounds together.

    • 5). Save your header as a .jpg or .gif file.

    • 6). Go to your blog and click customize in the top right corner. This will take you to the Add and Arrange Page Elements page. Hit edit in the header field. Type in your blog name and description in the supplied fields, then click the circle next to "from your computer". Find the header you just saved and then upload and save it.
