- 1). Park the 2500 on a level surface. Engage the parking brake and chock the rear wheels. Loosen the front wheels with the tire iron. Pick up the front of the truck with the jack, using the front crossmember as a jack point. Place the jack stands under the frame, then lower the jack. Take off the front wheels using the tire iron.
- 2). Remove the shock from the middle of the front suspension using pliers, an open-end wrench and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Put the jack under the lower control arm -- not to lift the truck, but just to touch the arm. Remove the cotter pin from the lower control arm with the needle-nose pliers. Unbolt the lower control arm from the spindle.
- 3). Lower the jack under the lower control arm to separate the spindle from the lower control arm. Pry the spring out of the lower control arm spring pocket with a pry bar. Install the replacement spring into the frame, using the pry bar for leverage. Lift up the jack until the lower control arm contacts the spindle. Reconnect the arm to the spindle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then install the replacement cotter pin using the needle-nose pliers.
- 4). Reinstall the shock absorber with the pliers, open-end wrench and 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the front wheels with the tire iron. Lower the Chevrolet 2500 off the jack stands with the jack.
