Remedy for Eye Problems

    Dryness

    • If you suffer from constant dry eyes, try placing a cool cloth over your eyes and resting with them closed for 20 minutes, several times a day. Purchase eye drops designed to treat dry eyes, available at most supermarkets. Applying these drops according to the directions on the bottle can help to relieve the dry, itchy feeling and give instant relief. Also, make a point to blink often, especially if you are engaged in long sessions at the computer.

    Redness

    • Redness is caused by a dry environment, lack of sleep, exposure to smoke or fumes, and improper nutrition. Treat this with several different approaches. Rinsing the eyes with cool water can help, if there is film on the eye from dust or ash. Boil a half tsp. of fennel seeds in 1 cup of water, strain the seeds out, and use the water as an eye drop several times a day to remove the redness from the eyes. You can also eat a fresh mango--the enzymes in the mango can help reduce redness in the eyes.

    Eye Strain

    • Eye strain can be caused by having a vision problem or from trying to read without adequate lighting. You can treat this several different ways. You can purchase the herb triphala. Place 1 tbsp. in a glass of water and allow it to sit all night. In the morning strain the water through a clean cloth and take the leftover water and use it as an eyewash to replenish the eyes. Eating tomatoes and carrots can improve vision health and should be a part of your daily diet, as they are rich sources of vitamin A, which is essential to good eye heath.

    Foreign Body

    • If you have an eyelash or bit of foreign matter in your eye, carefully flush your eye with clean, cool water until the object is removed. Do not use tweezers or poke directly at your eyeball, especially with unclean hands. Occasionally, larger objects can be blinked out--lower the head and blink rapidly until the object hits the tear duct, then wipe it away.

    Tips

    • Try eating a healthy diet, avoid areas rich in smoke and get proper amount of rest each night to ensure proper eye health. If you suffer from constant eye problems, or if you have blurred vision, you should seek the advice of a health care professional to determine the cause.
