- 1). Compare the paint chips with the brick fireplace. View the samples under adequate lighting conditions. Choose the one that matches the closest. Decide on the level of sheen for the paint. Choose a flat finish to blend with unglazed brick. Glazed brick may match better with an eggshell or satin finish.
- 2). Place a canvas dropcloth on the floor. Protect the whole surface. Place a strip of tape along the ceiling, trim and any wall that you are not planning to paint.
- 3). Paint along the edge of the wall with an angled brush. Smooth out the paint with even strokes to eliminate drips and obvious brushstrokes.
- 4). Roll the wall in square section of approximately 3 by 3 feet. Roll the paint on horizontally. Finish each section with vertical passes of the roller. Apply smooth, even pressure.
- 5). Paint adjacent sections before the edges have had a chance to dry. Complete the entire wall without stopping to avoid leaving behind obvious drying lines.
- 6). Apply a second coat of paint. Do not attempt to repaint the wall until the paint is completely dry.
- 7). Wash your brush with soap and water until the water runs clean. Store your brush upright until the bristles are totally dry.
