Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate frisbee is a fairly new sport that is growing rapidly throughout the US.
It was created in 1968 by Joel Silver.
The sport grew significantly after the first college game between Princeton and Rutgers.
Rutgers won 29-27.
Today, there are over 100,000 players un 40 nations, and over 13,000 UPA members in the United States.
Their are several throws that may be helpful to playing competitive ultimate.
1.
Backhand- The backhand is the most common and basic throw.
You simply reach across your body, while holding the disc around the rim, and flick your wrist while releasing the disc.
This throw is helpful when "hucking" the disc downfield.
2.
Flick- A flick is the second most common throw.
To do this, place your middle and index finger on the inside of the disc, leaving your thumb on the side of the disc.
Keep the disc on the right side of your body (if you are right-handed), and flick your wrist.
Try not to use very much of your arm to throw this because it will cause you to mess up.
3.
Hammer-A hammer is a useful throw when trying to break a defender up high.
You will grip a hammer just like a flick, except throw it upside down and across your head.
Try to keep this throw fairly low and out of the wind.
4.
Thumber- A thumber is not always the best throw to use in a game, but it is still fun to throw.
To throw this, hold your disc vertically and place your thumb inside the rim of the bottom.
The underside of the disc should be facing you.
When throwing this, keep it vertical all the way through and release it parallel to your head.
5.
Scuber- A scuber is a throw that is very rarely seen, but if you can do it it will be very helpful.
Hold the disc as you would a flick, turn it upside-down, and throw it across your body.
This throw may feel very weird at first but just keep doing it.
6.
Push pass- A push pass is great for working the disc upfield quickly, but can tear you down on a long throw.
To throw this, have your pinkie, ring finger, and middle finger on the inside of the disc.
place your index finger on the outside of the rim, and your thumb on the top of the disc.
Simply push the disc forward and let it roll off of your index finger.
