How to Replace the Starter in a 1998 Chevy Blazer

    • 1). Remove the negative cable from the battery terminal by loosening the nut with a wrench. Place the wheel chocks behind the rear wheels and lift the car up with the jack.

    • 2). Place a jack stand under the truck frame near the jacking point and raise it up to the frame.

    • 3). Locate the starter from under the truck. Tag the location of the solenoid wiring using the masking tape and marker. Disconnect the wires using a wrench to remove the nuts.

    • 4). Remove the bolts on the starter using a socket and ratchet. Take care when removing the last bolt that the starter doesn't drop on you.

    • 5). Put the new starter in place and start the bolts by hand to hold it. Use a socket and ratchet to tighten the bolts.

    • 6). Reconnect the wires according to the way you marked them and tighten the nuts with a wrench.

    • 7). Remove the jack stand from under the truck and lower the truck to the ground.

    • 8). Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the nut with a wrench. Start the truck to test the installation.
