Collect Your Supplies

Confess – how many times have you found yourself whipping up a pair of earrings before you head out the door? You have a certain outfit on or an interesting design comes to you, and you just can’t wait. That’s what happened to me one day when I realized my cell phone was not properly dressed.

Seriously, jewelry for our everyday peripheral equipment is hotter than ever, and what cyborg-jewelry maker wants to be out of the jewelry loop?

And, it‘s so, so easy to make jewelry for your cell phone now, especially with these cool Cell Phone Straps from Beadalon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this project, I have flipped the strap, attaching the jump ring end to my phone and using the loop part of the strap to attach the charm. i did this because the phone I attached it to didn't have a large enough hole to fit the strap through. Obviously, adjust this as you see fit depending on the type of phone you have.

I decided to go for something fun and whimsical for my first stab at making a cell phone charm. To make one you’ll need the following:

1 Cell Phone Strap
1 – 6mm pink crystal bead
1 – crystal unicorn pendant
6 inches of 22 gauge gold-filled wire
Round-nosed pliers
2 – pair of flat-nosed pliers
Wire cutters

Attatch Cell Phone Strap

1. Start by attaching the cell phone strap to your phone. The strap already has a jump ring attached, so you just need to locate the spot on your phone that has a hole. Then used a pair of flat-nosed pliers in both hands and open the jump ring on the strap, working so that one hand moves towards you and the other away from you to open the ring.
2. Insert the open ring in the hole of the cell phone, and use the same technique to close the jump ring.

Make the Unicorn Crystal Dangle

3. Now take your wire, and insert it through the hole at the top of the unicorn pendant, and use round-nosed and flat-nosed pliers to make a wrapped loop, making sure to leave plenty of extra wire at the top of the pendant.

4. Thread on the pink crystal bead onto the wire, and make another wrapped loop at the top.

Attach Dangle to Phone

5. You can now attach the dangle you just made to the end of the strap. Start my inserting the strap through the top loop of the dangle. You’ll notice the strap is doubled in thickness. You’ll see why soon.

6. Bring the dangle up between the doubled strap, and pull to secure.

For more cell phone jewelry, you can make more dangles similar to the one in this project or just add a charm. You just need to make sure the charm or dangle in question has a loop or jump ring on the end, and you and switch them out very easily. You may even want to make a cell phone wardrobe.
