Successful Blogger Disposition
SUCCESSFUL BLOGGER
Character of a Successful Blogger
Have you ever thought about what it actually takes to become a successful blogger? Well, there are certainly a lot of successes out there, and we can all learn something from the best of the best. So I started thinking about what it actually takes to run a successful blog, and to be a successful blogger. Here is a list that I came up with. There may be other characteristics, and these aren't necessarily in any specific order.
1. Loves to write - apparently now-a-days this has been changed to "Loves to aggregate"
In order to be a successful blogger, you either love to write and are using the Blog to publish your voice on the internet, or you are really absorbed in a particular topic and love to scour the Internet mashing articles, videos and other pieces of information together into blog posts. Either way, my opinion is that in order for you to have a successful blog you need to turn out high grade content and at least some of it needs to have your own stamp of personality.
2. Knows their grammar / spelling
Well this maybe shouldn't be on here, but it is a peeve of mine. I really don't like reading an otherwise great post to come across elementary spelling errors. For some reason it immediately lowers the quality of the post in my mind (I better check my own spelling now). I then have a tendency right or wrong to overlook the posted information, making it easy to forget the entire thing. At the same time I would not want to recommend the post to anyone else. (As if poor spelling were an infectious disease or something - I just wouldn't want to spread it.). This is one really basic area to be perfect in. All you need to do to be a successful blogger in this area is to use spell check.
3. Hard Working
Hard Working? Well successful bloggers are hard working, but not so much in the physical sense. However, if nothing else, a successful blogger is consistent. When I think of Hard Work I think of guys digging ditches by hand, mining coal or some other equally taxing physical labor. Writing a blog just doesn't measure up in that way. However, being consistent and writing at least one quality post day in and day out can start to really be a grind over time. Just how does one go about bottling creativity for the purpose of rolling out unique quality paragraphs every day on demand? You do get better at it if you write every day, but it's still not easy. As a matter of fact some days it seems like it would be easier to dig ditches.
4. Entrepreneurial
At some point you will have the idea that you can earn money from your blog. Being a successful blogger does not really demand monetary compensation. However, it's the typical chicken -vs- the egg question. What came first the satisfaction of writing, or the though of getting a paycheck?
While it's not crucial to complete the following exercise, you may want to figure out if you got in for the personal joy of writing and sharing, or strictly for the bread. But mark my words, at some point, regardless of what you got in for. You are going to have the idea that there might be some way to make money from your blogging efforts.
As far as making money from blogging goes you will need to spend some time investigating Sales and Marketing in order to become a successful blogger.
5. Creative
Since Content Management Systems abound and Plug-ins are plentiful. Anybody and I mean anybody can be a successful blogger especially from the creation and creativity perspective. Anyone can start a blog, make it appear fairly respectable and write or aggregate content. As a matter of fact anybody can start a blog about any interest they want. Sure, the more imaginative you are the better. One thing I heard the other day is good to keep in mind when it comes to creativity, and it doesn't only apply to blogging and website creation. "Creativity does not demand a laser like focus since it is not typically a linear process, It requires a much broader scope vision and surroundings that allow bits and pieces of wide ranging information to come together to generate new ideas. Being a successful blogger means to keep that open view, let the information percolate then capture it in beautifully written blog posts.
6. Life Lover
Well since I mentioned briefly the ability to create blogs about anything and everything. I think this category might be best described by saying that while successful bloggers may have a distinct love of life in general, loving life isn't by itself what makes them successful bloggers. By and large at some point they turn aside from the general happy go lucky path and begin to focus specifically on one or a few aspects of life that they are extremely passionate about, or that they love about life the most. I would say that the only thing they love more than life in general. is the slice of life they have chosen to blog about. My personal view is that in order to really be a successful blogger you need to be passionate about something.
7. Personal Developer
A Blog not examined is a blog not worth reading? Well maybe not, but self-development and being a successful blogger means writing, examining, commenting, thinking and blogging some more. Whether or not you are one with universe doesn't really matter unless it applies to your specific blog.
8. Communicator
This is where Bloggers get to show off. Certainly fresh posts are the way successful bloggers communicate to an audience. Some audience. Definitely at first an unrealized audience, sort of an embryonic audience if you will. But as soon as one of those virtual audience members posts a comment, that audience has become real and it becomes fact that there is at least one person out there watching and listening. When that happens, it makes blogging that much more fulfilling, especially since the successful blogger can now expound on the details of their passion(s) and connect them to a live person on the other end.
9. Helps Others
No big surprise here. being a successful blogger is kind of like being a successful parent. A blog is like one's baby. If somebody, anybody asked you about your baby and desired to know some details about how you take care of your baby, what you do when your baby cries, or what you feed your baby, most proud parents would be flattered to discuss these issues. Just like proud blog owners discussing their blogs. Maybe it's an ego thing, but I prefer to think that there is some altruism there.
10. Efficient
Blogging is a love/hate type of undertaking. It's not that a successful blogger hate's blogging, it's just that our lives in general have become so active that it is a ceaseless fight to borrow time out of the other important parts of our lives in order to have enough time to sit down every day and write blog posts, let alone answer questions and comments.
