Using credit cards had been never my way of life till I found the use and advantages of them. Now I have, but three shimmering, classy and glossy; but, thats the end of the story. The beginning of the story is How to Choose a Credit Card.
Like others who are nave in the credit card world, every card which came in front of me seemed to a Good Credit Card. But after going through the various cards and their Terms and Conditions, I realized, you really have to chew the beetle and read the fine print before you opt for a certain credit card.
Credit Cards arent clumsy stuff, but their conditions can be. Some put on an annual charge, some put additional charges on taking huge amounts as credit, and some take charge as hidden charges and so on. So before you click on Yes, read out these hidden and extra charges. Often these charges come with cards which do not have an annual or once in a lifetime fee. So, you need to be really careful.
Lets take an eye at the catch. E.g. the easiest credit cards you will find are the student credit card. These cards are loaded with introductory low interest rates (which generally last for the first year of the card), 0%interest rate on balance transfer and points for saving on food, movies and other kind of entertainment. Here the catch is the introductory low interest rates which might double up in the second year. Catch the catch!
Lets have a look at what Business Credit Cards have to offer. These are often loaded with beneficiaries like discounts on 5 star lunches, membership to exclusive clubs of India and special treatments. Here again, the interest rates are often high as compared to other kind of cards.
The best out of them are the secured credit cards. Secured cards offer the benefit of pre-payment of your future shopping. This way, you can always be assured of your credits; but here again the hidden charges are the issue. The point is this, we need to be aware of the charges these credit card companies levy directly or indirectly upon you.
See, the idea of taking credit card is to lessen the money we spend on day-to-day or monthly basis. Credit Cards do have their benefits huge discounts which you dont get from anywhere else, special attention, and memberships to acclaimed clubs, surcharge of on fuel, special discounts and offers for women card holders and so on. So, we do make a lot out of keeping a credit card. The advice is just keep an eye over your spendings and the interest rates attached to it if any. Keep on reviewing the changing Terms and Conditions and interest rates, thereby saving yourself from jumping off the chair at the end time.
So, enjoy the benefits of a credit card with an open eye. Get one, today
