Rafe notes how after everything E.J. has done, Sami still sticks up for him. Sami knows what E.J. and his father have done, but also knows that he’s tried hard to be a really good father. “Schedules the assassinations early so he’s home in time to tuck the kids into bed,” remarks Rafe. “I won’t hate him!” refuses Sami. She points out that her son is part of the DiMera family, and there’s nothing she can do about that.

She says the best thing for Rafe to do would be to just get up and leave. The bottom line is, she’ll never be through with E.J. She encourages him to go, but he refuses to go anywhere, believing he’d have to be crazy to leave anyone as wonderful as her. Sami jokes how she never thought she could be crazy about a guy who likes croissants, but can make an exception in his case. “Because I’m so good-looking?” he jokes. She admits that along with her four kids, she has loads of issues and a high-strung attitude problem, assuring him that he’s definitely not a rebound guy. She begins to bring up Grace, and Rafe interrupts and assures her that he’ll be in Grace’s life no matter what.

Rafe later finishes his croissant, then states that his next mission is to make Sami forget about E.J. He kisses her.

Chelsea’s Place

Max comes over and asks how Billie is doing. Chelsea says she’s still in the same condition. He embraces Chelsea, who informs him that her mom has to undergo an extensive series of operations in order to recover.

“I’m leaving, and I don’t know for how long,” she reveals. A relieved Chelsea hugs Max when he says he understands. Max offers to go with her. She insists that he can’t come, since he has med school. He reminds her that med school is still a big “if,” assuring her that he can defer it for however long it takes. “Well what about Melanie?” wonders Chelsea. Max wonders if Chelsea thinks he should stay there and watch Melanie when she doesn’t even listen to his advice. He then assumes that Chelsea doesn’t even want him to go.

Chelsea sits next to Max on the sofa and insists that she wants him to come more than anything, but is trying to think of the two of them. Max doesn’t understand. She predicts that she’ll be so wrapped up in taking care of Billie, and when Max is there he’ll have nothing around him that’s familiar. Max isn’t on board with this. He proceeds to get her books and CDs out of his car. She has to get to the hospital and pick up her last paycheck and asks him to wait there until she returns. He claims he has to work, obviously unhappy with her decision.

Steph returns home and encounters Max and sees the luggage, wondering if he and Chelsea are going somewhere. Max informs her that Chelsea’s going to take care of her mom and she went to pick up her last paycheck at the hospital. Steph asks how long Chelsea is going to be gone. “Maybe months,” replies Max. “What’s next, Max? What the hell is next?” she complains. Steph soon apologizes for being selfish. Max questions what happened at the hospital, noting how she was upset even before she found out Chelsea was leaving. She moans how someone wants to kill her boyfriend, who won’t go to Greece with her. She insists that she wants to get out of town after what happened to her mom getting shot, then Philip getting shot as well. Max suggests that she could go on her own.

Back at the Hospital

Chelsea comes to the hospital to see Philip, who is talking to Billie on the phone. He hangs up and mentions how his sister is really happy Chelsea is coming. By Chelsea’s down mood, Philip assumes that Max didn’t take the news very well. Chelsea wonders if he knows where Steph went, but Philip doesn’t know where she went or if she’ll even come back.

Steph returns to the hospital and enters Philip’s room. “Am I dreaming?” he asks. She admits that she doesn’t like living like this, but after she thought about it, she realized that it’s better than living without him. “I love you Philip,” she professes, before she gently kisses him and lies next to him. A nurse soon enters the room and tells Steph to wait outside, since the patient needs his meds and rest. Steph tells Philip to call if he needs her. “He won’t. He’ll be sleeping,” the nurse coldly responds. They exchange “I love yous” one last time. The nurse administers a stronger antibiotic, which knocks Philip right out. “Good night sweet prince,” says the nurse as she puts a pillow over his face.

Just outside the room, Kate remarks how Daniel played a dangerous game today. She agrees to let Daniel and Chloe be history as long as it’s over, admitting that she owes him for saving her sons’ lives. Daniel insists that Chloe is doing everything she can to make Lucas happy and points out that Kate is alive because of her.

Back Home

Chelsea returns home and finds that Max is still there. Max supports her decision to go to London alone and apologizes for not being understanding earlier. Chelsea hugs him and expresses how much she’ll miss him. He assures her that he’ll be waiting for her when she returns. She doesn’t know if it’s very fair to ask him to wait for her. “That’s not your call, okay? I am going to wait for you until you get back,” he affirms, then kisses her.

Elsewhere

Lucas and Chloe are at the pub, where Arianna takes their order. Lucas insists to Chloe that he doesn’t want any secrets between the two of them. He admits that he’s been keeping things from her. Chloe assumes that it’s Sami, but Lucas says he was talking to Will, who advised his dad to stay out of Sami’s craziness. Chloe notes that Will is wise beyond his years. Arianna’s ears perk up when she hears Sami’s name. Chloe would rather talk about the two of them, then kisses Lucas.

Chloe later heads back to the park and leaves a message for Daniel, which Kate overhears. Kate informs her that Daniel’s phone is turned off, and he’s at the hospital in surgery. She mentions how she and Daniel had a really interesting conversation, telling him how much she owed him for everything he’s done for her family. “But you, you, I don’t owe a damn thing,” sneers Kate.
