- 1). Obtain a copy of your credit report from each of the three reporting agencies: Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. If you disputed inaccurate information, you are entitled to view your report within 30 days of the dispute resolution. The credit reporting agency should supply you with an access code to view your disputed report online or by phone. To receive a free annual report, call 877-322-8228, visit the Annual Credit Report website or complete an Annual Credit Report Request form found on the Federal Trade Commission website and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.
- 2). Review the information on your credit report. The items you have attempted to correct or repair should be reflected. If not, formally write the specific reporting agency and request an explanation. Ask for a new investigation and supply any evidence you have proving the information is false.
- 3). Apply for a new line of credit. This is a way to obtain your credit score without having to pay a fee. If you are denied credit for any reason, you can use this as an excuse to submit a written request for a free copy of your credit report. Most lenders or credit card companies can provide reasons you were either denied or approved.
