- 1). Attach the bobber approximately four feet from hook. Fish get spooked easily. Setting your bobber a few feet from your bait reduces fish fear.
- 2). Cast your line, point your rod toward the water and allow fish to nibble. Before they bite down hard, fish may play with the bait, causing the bobber to bobble around.
- 3). Set the hook. When the bobber goes completely under water, quickly but gently lift the tip of your rod. Pull up too fast and you will rip the hook through the fish's mouth or pull the hook out of the fish's mouth before the fish gets hold on the hook.
- 4). Reel fish in at a steady pace, keeping your rod tip lifted in the air and fishing line taut. Remove fish from the water with your hand or a fishing net.
