How to Make Flesh Tones Using Photoshop

    Palette

    • 1). Open a high-resolution picture of a person by clicking "File" in the main menu and then "Open." Browse to where your image is and then click "OK."

    • 2). Create a palette by clicking on "File" from the main menu and then "New." In the dialog box next to "Width," type in "200," and next to "Height," type in "50." Name it "Flesh Tone Palette" and click "OK."

    • 3). Select the "Rectangle Tool" on the toolbar. Hold your left mouse key down and draw a rectangle approximately one-third the size of the flesh tone palette. In the "Library" panel, right-click on the shape and click "Duplicate Layer." Repeat until you have a total of three. Arrange the rectangles on your palette bar so they are all visible.

    • 4). Click on the first "Rectangle" of your color palette and then click on the "Eyedropper" tool on the toolbar. With the eyedropper tool selected, click on the nose, chin or forehead of your image to create a highlight color.

    • 5). Click on the middle "Rectangle" of your color palette and then click on the "Eyedropper" tool on the toolbar. With the eyedropper tool selected, click on the cheek or arms of your image to create a mid-tone base color. Check to be sure the highlight color you had chosen in Step 4 is a significantly lighter shade than your mid-tone/base skin color.

    • 6). Click on the last "Rectangle" of your color palette and then click on the "Eyedropper" tool on the toolbar. With the eyedropper tool selected, click on the shadows from under the chin or just below the hairline at the nape of the neck of your image to create the shadow color.

    Gradients

    • 1). Add color to your art work by creating a gradient. Click on the "Background" color on the toolbar and then click on a color from your flesh color palette.

    • 2). Select the "Foreground" color and choose a different color from your flesh color palette.

    • 3). Choose the "Gradient" tool in the toolbar and then click on the area where you want to add color; while holding your mouse down, drag across your image to add the gradient.
